Every once and a while there are posts about screen time....you know....TV time, iPad, video games, etc. How much is too much, what is the 'right' balance?
My kids love the iPad. They play it on long car rides, while I brush their hair, when they are on the verge of falling asleep in the car. TV time is first thing in the morning while breakfast is being prepared and eaten.....while I wait for caffeine to kick in. My kids actually have tv quite often while they eat a meal. I know it's not ideal, but it's a routine we have gotten used to.
They like watching Sofia the first the most. I'm guilty of putting the show on to get a few moments of a sanity break. It's lighthearted good in nature, and Sofia is always trying to make things right.
Besides all that screen time they do get they also get outside quite often too. Last year we bought a swing set that has a clubhouse with it. They love climbing up the slide, rock wall, and spinning around on the ring bar. My kids are outside everyday....unless it's -40C or something silly like that.
I think the amount of screen time depends on what your kids are watching. For example......if it's cartoons for 4 hours then it's most likely not a lot of the good ones. If it's Sesame Street, discovery, and science channels then I might be better with it. As for the computer..... I have controls on it which allow only certain websites and certain times.
I generally think it's about moderation and parental involvement. Good luck with cartoons available 24/7 these days.
