I think this has to be the longest summer in history. I'm saying this only because I've calculated out that it's 10 weeks of summer.
I haven't minded it so much actually. Sleeping in, wearing our pj's late into the morning, no schedule to stick to, or bedtime to be strict with (although we tend to be consistent). Trips to the park, neighbours pools, day time play dates, walks to the slushy store, bike riding....it's been fun.
But I'm now done. I'm officially burned out, and I think the kiddos are too. Entertaining the 2 kids everyday (except Fridays, that's Nanas day) all day for 10 weeks has been tiring. I can't take 2 kids out bicycling and teach one how to ride without training wheels while the other is flying down the sidewalk, or whining how she can't peddle uphill, or how her sister is 20 feet ahead of her.
My youngest is looking forward to starting school next week and so am I. No more fights at 9am over toys, or trying to get them to agree on what to have for lunch or dinner.
I did enroll them in a day camp for a week and it was kind of creepy. But they had a blast and made new friends, and did different things that I can't provide at home. I wish I had been able to enroll them for another week. They had so much fun, and I got to put in a few extra hours at our store working. It was a taste of what both kids enrolled at school will be like.
So.....even if I love summer weather, and the freedom of being a SAHM. I think I'm going to request summer to be a bit shorter next year please. Or maybe more summer camp.
