While the option for many mothers to stay at home for the first year of their child's life is mostly a reality in Ontario, by the time comes to return to 'work' and put our darling child/ren into someone else's care some of us feel lost, our heart breaks.
We might not get to see those first steps, first true words. So we become SAHM's instead. We do it because we can and choose to.
We get to see those first steps, first words, and wake up to 'Hi Momma' not the alarm clock to rush around (mostly, unless your other child/ren go to school)
Our days are filled with cuddles, and kisses, crafts, tickles and sometimes a playgroup. I joined a nursing group with my first daughter mainly to get out of the house and be supportive of the other nursing moms who may have problems or need to talk. Our little babies rolled on the mats on the floor, cooed, giggled and we felt secure to nurse our children when we needed to. No staring eyes or bad looks from people who think it's inappropriate to eat in public. Most babies have excellent manners when they eat by the way, no chewing with their mouths open, loud belches, or shoving more in their than they should, and they never talk with their mouths full of food.....but some do try to look around with the food source in their mouths.....not pleasant.
Some parents are cut out for being a SAHM (oh, and M can be substituted for D, or G for guardian), and some aren't. Each of us who do try our hand at being a SAHM try our best and although it's mentally tiring and physically too because our job is our children. We do the 24/7 thing. We don't leave our work at the office, we live in it. We are also the ones who do the housework, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and usually at the same time as the parenting part. Some of us get help from our partners, and some of us live in the 1950's way, even if it's not exactly they way we would like it to be.
We love our children, we live for our children, and each day is spent being with our children.....then it's bed time.....and maybe a glass of wine 😄
