My little girl graduates kindergarten today. I know it's not such a big deal. I know they couldn't technically fail her these days (but she's wicked smart and reading above her grade level so they'd never fail her anyways), and I know she'll be going into grade 1 next year. I don't remember having some graduation ceremony when I 'passed' kindergarten, we mearly finished school in June and went to grade 1 in September.
I think the graduation thing is big these days because the children spend 2 years in kindergarten held within a fenced yard during recess time.
Grade 1 allows mingling with older kids and the freedom of the field to run and play on.
I guess it sort of is a big deal. I've also changed my view of "Whatever...graduating kindergarten" to "HORRAY! My child has grown and developed and learned so many things. She gets to move forward in her education"
I know I'll be the proud mom watching her accept her certificate of graduation and forgetting to take pictures. I'll sniff a little with happy tears too I'm sure.
